Graphic Design

When you study graphic design at St. 云州, you'll develop your skills in communicating visually through typography and images. You'll learn to find solutions for design and communication problems. 技术 will become a part of your environment as you explore print, web and interactive design practices. You'll study contemporary methods and issues in graphic design, design history and theory while you develop your creativity in conceptualizing, problem-solving and implementing communication solutions. A required internship will give you experience translating your creativity into addressing the day-to-day demands of a designer.

Program Highlights

• Kiehle Visual 艺术s Center houses ceramics, wet-based photography and printmaking; large studio classrooms for painting, 画, 雕塑, and art education; student studios; a woodshop; a metal shop; and several large computer labs and a digital project lab that support graphic design, digital photography, video and multimedia.
• 教师 are established artists as well as teachers with work exhibited and selected for collections across the country including the Minneapolis Institute of 艺术s, Walker 艺术 Center, Museum of 艺术s and Design in New York, Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and Cain Schulte Gallery in San Francisco.
• 访问ing 艺术ists, 设计师, and 策展人s Program, annually invites 三个 or four national arts professionals such as Nicholas Brown, a curator from Yale; Michelle Grabner, Chicago artist and co-curator of the 2014 Whitney Biennial; and Mark Randall, New York graphic designer to lead workshops and meet with students one-on-one to discuss their work.
• This discipline is also available as a 小 to complement other majors. 

Program Distinctions

• Kiehle Gallery exhibits the work of innovative regional artists and designers who discuss their work during openings and hosts the annual juried student art show, curated by a Twin-Cities arts professional.

Valerie Snobeck '03, named by arts writer Elisa Carmichael as one of 25 artists to watch in 2013, exhibited as part of Whitney Biennial, a show of new American art at Whitney Museum of American 艺术 in New York City.
